New Dave Rawlings Album and Upcoming Interview in Acoustic Guitar

We're excited to hear about the upcoming realease of the Dave Rawlings Machine album, A Friend of a Friend. Acoustic Guitar senior editor Scott Nygaard spent a few hours with Rawlings when he and Gillian Welch were playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco two weeks ago, and got a lot of great insight into Rawlings singular guitar style. Look for a feature story in an upcoming issue of Acoustic Guitar.

A Special Froggy Bottom Guitar

Michael Millard of Froggy Bottom Guitars sent the following note about a special guitar he recently completed in commemoration of his friend, Thomas Humphrey. Often a great guitar gets built with best of intentions.

The story is best told in Michael's words:

For three years in the early ‘70’s, the two young guys actually building the guitars in the renowned New York workshop of Michael Gurian were Thomas Humphrey and Michael Millard… Continue

Guitarist and innovator Les Paul dies at age 94

A giant in the world of guitar has died. I had the chance to see Les Paul at his weekly show in New York City at the Iridium about five years ago. He could still play and he certainly entertained the packed crowd with his between-song banter. Pick up an electric guitar today and make some noise in his honor. Click here for a nice obit.

Acoustic Guitar from Summer NAMM

Day one of Summer NAMM is just about wrapped, and the Acoustic Guitar crew—including myself and senior editors Teja Gerken and Scott Nygaard—roamed the Nashville Convention Center hall, checking out new products and talking to our industry colleagues.

While the actual size of the show is no doubt smaller than in past years, the mood among exhibitors and attendees is upbeat and positive, and there are more new products being released than many expected. We saw traffic-stopping performance… Continue

Hi Dan,
I sent a message to you regarding the teaching video that is in the editing stage right now. Don't know if you got it. We're looking to complete the editing around the 17th of Oct and would like for Acoustic Guitar to take a look at it.

Hi Dan
What is the protocol for selling a used acoustic on this format? If it's not acceptable, could there be a seperate category that maybe limits
folks to a single ad per six months or so?

Best, Bruce Wilson

Hi Dan,
During the Brian Ball chat last week, it was indicated a transcript of the discussions would be available. Has this been posted, or have I just not found it?
Thanks
John

Hi Dan,
May I know from you where can I find the best reference book to improve my intermediate standard of fingerstyle to the advance level ?
From Paul.

Dan, thanks for your gracious note regarding a misinterpretation.

Usually, the best way to deal with an angry ranter is with humor; I felt bady for Ted, and much annoyed with JJ, but the fact that I was unable to tag the post with the original target is my mistake. I didn't want to use JJ's name on it either, figured that would just get him going again, so I guess it wasn't too hard for someone to see things differently than they were intended.

I very much enjoy this forum, it's a good outlet for the sharing the joys of equipment and playing, (spares some of the patient but glazed looks from family and friends) and in the future I will stick to straight statements and questions. BTW, not to blow too much smoke here, but the AG magazine is just excellent, layout, graphics and content. Bruce.

Bruce here again, I think you might be taking me for the guy Ted H's complaining about...again he's (Ted) complaining about JJ, who's just been mean to a lot of folks. I would appreciate a retraction...I think I did a good thing with my post there. Because JJ's discussion was closed, I couldn't tag it but if you've been keeping up with the posts you'd understand as did previous responders

Hi Dan,
I do hope you realize my post was a response to JJ Hildreths mocking of a hand injury and was supposed to have the opposite effect of what you might have taken it for. Please read JJ 's blathering posts regarding hand injuries from a couple of days ago in Uncatogorized. This guy's been giving folks a real tough time and I thought my post might take him down a peg. Would appreciate a response-hope you were refering to JJ and not me, Thanks Bruce— wils720@aol.com

I've been enjoying the community up until recently. I posted a discussion about guitar player;s injuries. Primarily because I screwed up a finger and find it really difficult and at times impossible to play and I was hoping to hear about something that didn't involve surgery that, even with insurance, may cost be a bundle. Some member, came down on me with his legitimate tale of injury and told me to stop whining and "get over it". Great community you got here Dan. Sure is a fine place to exchange ideas. Real supportive.

Hi, Dan! This was a great idea! It's exactly what I've been looking for; a place to interact with other players and builders and share ideas. Thanks! Best to you, Jon Allred, Allred String Instruments
