How to make a Ukulele in an hour!
Bluey my 2nd mando guitar is no longer! No don't worry she's undergone a little tuning change and is now a double 6 steel string ukulele! (approximately concert size) I've changed a few string gauges around and she now tuned ADGCEA All the pairs are in unison but the extra A&D also tuned like the G in what Ukulele players call re-entery or in plain English an octave up from what you'd expect. So I play my standard guitar chords but have no bass but can now p…

Greetings Acoustic guitar players,
Is anyone interested in Eddie Lang plectrum style playing?
My late father Louis Gallo wrote guitar arrangements in Lang style and played them on BBC radio in London UK.
If interested please look at

Regards to all.

Due to an unethical corporate take over, designer and founder Lance Allyn has split from TiSonix Industries.
Those who respect integrity and a business founded by a musician and whose excellent products were crafted for musicians and NOT corporate greed would do well to wait until Mr. Allyn finds another facility to produce his world class titanium products. I hereby rescind my endorsement of his former employer and will patiently wait until Mr.
Allen re-emerges from this legal road block.

I often make the point to students that paying attention to when fingers need to come off is as important as paying attention to when they need to go on the strings.
I just had a student of my classical foundation course post a video that illustrates this nicely. He usually masters every piece flawlessly.....but in the last piece by Sor, he messes up a passage toward the end. He doesn't know it (yet), but it is because particulars fingers are not coming off at the right time.
Check it out.....…

Hi All
An interesting week for the Mashers making for what I hope might be an interesting and thought provoking News Blog for this week.
All the artists at Acoustic Rotherham 5 stood tall and proud in their vocal support for the very late change in venue for the event, which was forced upon us because our normal venue allowed a BNP meeting in the pub. The full story is in the Blog, read it and be frightened!!
I want to thank all those who have sent messages of support to me over the past few…

I have a student who, like many, was wasting time by getting too hung up on each piece in the Shearer book (which I use as a textbook for my classical course). Even after he had done a good job, he kept working at it to try to get it as fast as he heard somebody else play it
That is fine, but he was neglecting going forward, which is very important at this stage.
So I have been pushing him. He sent me a video of his results after 2 weeks with 2 new pieces. They are quite good. Here they are ar…

Architecture is the art and science of scheming out and construct buildings and other physical structures by a person or a computer, primarily to provide shelter. It is the art or science of building; exclusively: the art or practice of designing and building structures and especially livable ones.
For your
architecture dissertation you are required to do methodical research work. Architecture is a…

A student was wondering why he keeps messing up the beginning of his pieces when trying to play for others. I gave him a simple exercise to perform which showed him the reason very quickly!

Air on the G-string is Bach's ever popular song. I love this song and I find it both challenging and a joy to play. This song is so beautiful and expressive, you would have to be a rock not to be moved by it's melody. Recently, I have had a song request in my blog to cover this song so that gave me the push to revisit
Air on the G string. Of all the bach songs I have done, this is the song that I have the greatest di…

I've had a few different PA set-ups in my day. The last radical change was from the usual 2 speaker style to the Bose L1 line array speaker system with a single totem pole type stand which acts as mains and monitors all in one simple set-up. The only problem for me was the weight of the base which houses the 2 amps and mixer. It does take up less room than a conventional set-up and is quicker to set up but that one piece is too heavy for me so....Bose now has the L1Compact. A lighter version per…

I originally, began recording my guitar playing to keep a few friends up to speed on my progress at learning to play.
After a couple of these recordings a friend branded me as 'MG Taylor', that was flattering, kinda' fun and funny; thanks, Ron.
The Acoustic Guitar Community became available, and I'm a subscriber to Acoustic Guitar magazine, so, I thought, why not, this oughta' be ... neat. I had a web site dedicated to my Amateur Flattrack Motorcycle Racing hobby, when I was involved in that, t…

We’ve discovered an unfortunate error in our transcription of Andy McKee’s fingerstyle arrangement of “Africa” in the November 2009 issue of
Acoustic Guitar. The tuning key listed is slightly (but significantly!) off the mark—the tuning that we printed was D G D G B D, but should have been D G D G A D. The notes and tab numbers are correct, as is the second-fret capo. We’re deeply sorry about any confusion this may have caused.
McKee recently uploaded several new high-definition videos t…

I don't know if I will find time to use this feature or not but we'll get it started anyway. I'm 57 and live in Brampton, ON, Canada. I have been playing guitar since I was 12. Guitar was not my first (or my last) instrument I learned to play. I started palying trumpet when I was 8. I now play trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, French Horn, guitar, bass, 5 string banjo, mandolin, uke, pedal steel, recorder, harmonicas, dulcimer, canjo...I think that's it. Now I want to try sitar and tabla. I play Blu…

We're excited to hear about the upcoming realease of the Dave Rawlings Machine album,
A Friend of a Friend.
Acoustic Guitar senior editor Scott Nygaard spent a few hours with Rawlings when he and Gillian Welch were playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco two weeks ago, and got a lot of great insight into Rawlings singular guitar style. Look for a feature story in an upcoming issue of
Acoustic Guitar.
